Audi R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro Review: New Sensation
Audi's new drop top R8 is the perfect car for driving on the roads of the scenic French Riviera.
Inside, the Spyder is largely similar to the coupe. The addition of the roof means there's hardly any storage space behind the seats so the 100-litre boot is the only place where you can store overnight bags.
A worldwide first in the Spyder is the seatbelt microphone for the hands-free unit, which makes it possible to talk on the phone even with the top down on the highway claims Audi. Integrated into each of the two belts are three microphones that resemble small, flat discs and do not interfere with the rolling up of the belts. When the seatbelt is being worn, one microphone is always located in the vicinity of the mouth, regardless of the person's height. Software analyzes the quality of the signals and forwards the best one to the hands-free unit. A fourth microphone is mounted on the windshield frame and is used to make calls when the car is parked and the seatbelt is not on.
Disappointingly though, Audi hasn't changed much of the coupe's cabin for this sexy topless model.
With the Spyder, Audi has added a new dimension to the R8 experience. The Spyder handles and goes like a super car should but more importantly, looks nothing short of dramatic and evocative - definitely a worthy car for the jet setters of the French Riviera.
