Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 Hatchback Dynamic M-jet Review: 'Scusi Signorina!*

First Volkswagen, and now even Fiat has decided to bring in a diesel variant of its popular Grande Punto hatch. So what if it's a turbocharged diesel? Why else should you get one?

If the car was an Italian belle, I’d be wondering (a) “Why does she talk so fast?”, (b) “What’s with all the hand gesturing?”, and (c) “I don’t think I like her.”

But as the day wore on, this car grew on me. I learned to appreciate the quirky transmission, and found it fun to use. The Multijet engine is wonderfully pliable and remains smooth even at high revs. And at the same time, its fuel consumption is an impressive 4.6 liters/100 km.

So why should you consider this car? It looks good, it’s got interesting quirks, and more importantly, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.

The Grande Punto reminds me of a time when a foxy Italiana waved me over and then said, (cue Italian accent) “Andiamo!” *

*let's go
