Volkswagen Golf GTI 2.0 TSI (DSG) 5 Door Review: Same but d-i-f-f-e-r-e-n-t
Identical platforms, identical transmissions, near-identical engines – could these two premium hatchbacks be actually the same car but in different body shells? C.K investigates...

Their spec sheets might suggest that these two cars are very similar, but their driving experiences are anything but. Enthusiasts will revel in the GTI's playful agility and its ability to adjust the damper firmness, at the same time taking to its sporty, good looks. The A3's will be well appreciated by those who do not mind sacrificing a bit of handling for a little more indulgence (the executive looks and quality cabin) and safety (the quattro system).
Being higher up on the premium ladder, Audi products typically command a slight premium over VW products. The 5-door GTI is going for $133,300, while the 3-door version costs $129,300. As for the A3 2.0 TFSI quattro, its asking price is $139,800 - a good $10.5k more than the equivalent GTI.
Whether the presence of the four-ring logo and the added security afforded by the quattro system is worth the premium or not, we leave it to you to decide...
