It was nearly impossible not to know about the official launch of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. Aggressive advertising through the various media channels made it hard not to be aware of the party. Open to public, the all-new Evo X was finally launched on a Saturday evening at the East Entrance of the National Stadium, with hosts Class 95 deejays Glenn Ong and Jean Danker.
The car was nothing new as dailies and magazines have done reviews on it prior to the launch. As such, attracting the crowds was not the car itself, but rather, the opportunity to experience Katsuhiko Taguchi’s drifting expertise. His professional handling and awe-inspiring stunts were satisfyingly impressive!
Race queens were also on scene to specially maintain the crowd’s interest level. Four local race queens were present, in new swanky Mitsubishi race queen outfits - but they were quickly eclipsed when the Japanese race queens arrived.
These hot babes can’t help but make me ponder about the main motive of the many photographers who formed the bulk of the audience - were they there for the drifting demonstration or the race queens?
Lots of photo opportunities, exploding fireworks and drifting joyrides made up the rest of the night.
