Grit and bear it...

This year The New Paper celebrates its tenth SUVival challenge and we were invited to join this very special event.

Painted in a special zebra stripe livery, our media team’s Jeep Wrangler, the four door version of the Sahara, proved its mettle across the different terrains without breaking a sweat. Whether steep inclines or drenched mud pools, the Jeep shrugged it off like a walk in the park.

The second off road route was designed for more serious off-roaders with modified under bodies and raised chassis to handle the steep climbs and deep mud pools. And it was quite a sight to see a couple of serious locally registered SUVs like the gargantuan Land Rover attempt these difficult obstacles.

And just to add to the adventure, the SUVEC club once again facilitated a midnight off-road adventure leading a 30 vehicle convoy through a forest trail at night. The mix of gravel, narrow trails, mud pools and sharp bends made for an exciting evening for everyone. Through it all, our faithful Jeep kept plugging on without a care in the world.

It’s nice to see that off-road adventurers are still celebrated annually in an event catered to bringing out the best (and worst) of local SUVs. If you haven’t got an SUV yet, there’s still time to get a Jeep Trailhawk and in time for next year’s SUVival challenge.
