Mercedes-Benz is betting that its future in Singapore is about more than just selling cars.

The German marque has opened Mercedes-Benz Studio Singapore at Gardens by the Bay, its first Studio in Southeast Asia, with the electric GLC making its Singapore debut there.

Think less conventional showroom, more Mercedes-Benz clubhouse.

The Studio is split into three zones. Canvas combines cars with art and design, Commune works as a café and social space, while Courtyard focuses on community activities and events.

There will also be rotating food, lifestyle and creative collaborations. The opening programme includes a Community Weekend with adidas Run Club, Rapha and TUNDRA on 29 and 30 August. The Studio opens to the public from 2 September - entry is free.

Then there is the main attraction: the all-new electric GLC. Developed around a dedicated EV architecture, it packs 360 kW, 800 Nm and up to 687 km of WLTP range.

Its 94.4 kWh battery supports up to 330 kW DC charging, with a claimed 10 – 80% charging time of 22 minutes. Mercedes-Benz says up to 305 km of range can be added in 10 minutes at a suitable high-power charger.

It is practical, too, with a 570-litre boot, 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded and a 128-litre frunk. The longer wheelbase also brings more space for passengers.

Inside, MB.OS runs the car's digital architecture, while the latest MBUX brings AI integration from Microsoft and Google. The biggest screen option measures 99.3 cm.

For Singapore buyers, the GLC 400 4MATIC electric starts at S$378,888, while the AMG Line Sport costs S$412,888. Both include three years of servicing and S$1,000 in charging credits.

Now we know - there's a new Mercedes-Benz space to check out at Gardens by the Bay. But the bigger message is clear: Mercedes-Benz wants its Singapore presence to be electric, digital and lifestyle-driven - not just another place to browse cars!
