Heil Holtrof!

Believe it or not, this Mercedes-Benz G-Class that dates back to 1988 still has its engine, drivetrain and other insides intact, and original, despite having gone round the world during the last 17 years!

How do they put up with everyday living?

Gunther claims that the most important aspect of his philosophy lies in not arousing envy. He and his entourage sleep, cook, eat, drink and even shower in or around the car.

“On the road, we live as simply as the local population. In 17 years of traveling, we have only once stayed in a house, and that was with a friend in America. Otherwise, we sleep in the car or our hammocks.”

What’s next?

At this moment, some of Gunther’s intended destinations are not exactly the safest places in the world, but he does not intend to skip them (refer to the attached map)

“When things get hot, we bypass the area. In the last fifteen years, we have never taken unnecessary risks but neither have we done anything that might scare us,” he says.

And, when all things are said and done, the Holtorfs 300GD will be acquired by the new Mercedes Museum sometime in 2009, when they finally finish their globetrotting exploits.

If this remarkable tale of adventure does not bite your inner travel bug, then I don’t know what will!
