The unveiling was an especially memorable occasion witnessed by over 500 guests at the Ritz Carlton, Millenia Singapore as Stuttgart Auto also celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Porsche in Singapore.

To mark this momentous occasion, Stuttgart Auto Pte Ltd also donated a quarter of million dollars ($250,000) to the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund. The donation cheque was presented by Stuttgart Auto Pte Ltd's Executive Chairman Mr. Karsono Kwee to the Straits Times's Editor, Mr Han Fook Kwang, who received the cheque on behalf of the Fund.

Mr Kwee also reaffirmed Stuttgart Auto's commitment to the wider community. He said: "It's been a fantastic 25 years with Porsche and I am very proud to be standing here to unveil yet another exciting Porsche model. The 911 model series has always been the iconic model of the Porsche brand. While we want to celebrate the launch of this very special Porsche today as well as the 25th Anniversary of Stuttgart Auto, it is also important to remember the wider community and to continue to do our part to help the needy. As a long-standing partner and contributor to the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund, we hope that the amount donated will go a long way in helping the less-fortunate and to alleviate the financial burden faced by parents inproviding for their children's education. This is one of the ways that Stuttgart Auto hopes to contribute back to the society."

The new 911 model unveiled at the event, the Carrera GTS, has a power output of 408bhp, derived from its 3.8-litre flat-six engine allowing the GTS to achieve a century sprint in 4.2 seconds in its Coupé form, with Porsche's seven-speed Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) and a Sport Chrono Package Plus in Sport Plus mode. True to form of the Porsche Intelligence Performance mantra, the additional performance of the 911 Carrera GTS is achieved through increased vehicle efficiency, allowing the GTS to maintain the same fuel efficiency as a 911 Carrera S despite its increased power and perform-ance. Fuel consumption of a Carrera GTS Coupe with PDK is 10.2 litres/100 km, CO2 emissions are 240 g/km.

The Italian term "Gran Turismo" - or GT for short - denotes a motor sport category. The ex- pression translates as "grand touring", because GT vehicles were originally relatively luxurious sports cars built for endurance races. Unlike formula racing cars or prototypes, the compe- tition rules now state that GT racing cars must be ready for type approval as road cars, of which at least the minimum number specified in the rules must be built.

GTS - the origins of the name

By virtue of such models' technical closeness to road cars, Porsche used GT motor racing from very early on as a test lab for production development. The Type 356 A 1500 Carrera GT from 1956 was the first Porsche sports car to bear the characteristic letters that were soon destined to become a huge sensation on racetracks worldwide. Other remarkable Porsche GT vehicles included the Porsche 356 Carrera GTL Abarth and the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS. The latter is a landmark model in Porsche racing history because it repeatedly emerged as overall winner in various different racing categories. Its "GTS" suffix hinted at its principal area of use, with "S" standing for "Sport".

Until this very day, Porsche includes "GT" in the names of particularly sporty production models to highlight their motor sport pedigree - the Porsche Carrera GT and the Porsche Cayenne GTS being typical examples. Porsche upholds this tradition with the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS.

Available as both a Coupé and Cabriolet, the basic price of the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS starts from SGD 428,888 for the Coupe and SGD 468,888 for the Cabriolet. Prices are inclusive of a 5-year free maintenance and warranty program, road tax and GST but exclude COE prices.
