Navigation - Holux GPSmile 6210+

There are so many Personal Navigation Devices (PND) in the market right now including GPS in mobile phones.  Would Holux's newest kid on the block become the King of the 'Hood'?

What we like:
pros
Big and clear screen for both day and night Junction view for better guidance while on the road Intuitive search for destinations Fast lock on
What we dislike:
cons
Default routes chosen pretty circuitous Default setting for verbal warning a tad irritating Instruction for making 'U' turn misleading

How the Holux Fares

To make it easier, one can preset the home and office locations to save some finger jabbing on the screen. If the address is not known, one can choose the spot on the map or use Points of Interest (POI) listing to identify the end point by making a keyword search such as “Vivocity” if one wants to go harbor front.

While using the PND, there were no huge surprises and every time I make a ‘wrong’ turn, the PND will quickly sense the change and update a new route for me to use. The device will also highlight the places you ought to exit or keep going by showing the image representation of the exit point and also the lane where you should be on. Intuitive!

However, I find that the route chosen is somewhat more circuitous than what I normally would use even when I choose “recommended” as the default routing method.

The other pet peeve on the Holux is that the PND would tell me to “turn right at the intersection, and turn right at the intersection” whenever I need to make a U turn. This may be quite misleading as users may assume that the next right turn is done at the following intersection.

There is also a 3D map with 3D buildings representation is certainly a boon especially when confirming the location that I am in. But when one is driving, I am more concerned with the road that I am on and the direction given to me.

Still Holux generally did a great job directing me around and gives me ample warning to change directions as and when it is needed.
