Rose Talks

I would like to see more regular female trackies. So far, I only know of a few. What's ideal is to form a team of Singaporean female racers just like the RedBull teams in Malaysia.

Oneshift: What do you hope to see in today's female drivers?
Rose:

I have two - Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa. In racing, it's all about having the guts; and Hamilton has loads of it! To achieve such results at his age, it's more than just talent and luck, but also effort and determination to catch up with the more experienced racers. As for Massa, he retains his cool very well. Whenever there's a mistake, he doesn't show his frustration, if any.

Oneshift: Who is your favourite F1 driver and why?
Rose:

In the local context, it has to be Denis Lian. He was the first Singaporean to win the Asian Formula 2000, an international racing event.

Oneshift: Who do you admire?
Rose:

To me, driving skills are judged on the number of hours spent driving instead of the gender. I don't mean the number of years you've had your driving licence, but the number of hours you actually spend driving behind the wheel. The more hours you clock, the more experience you gain and the more familiar you get with road conditions and driver behaviours. In my line of work, I've seen more male customers getting into car accidents than females!

Oneshift: Do you think women are generally bad drivers?
Rose:

Yes, I would prefer my partner to love cars and understand the technicalities of modifications. We can go tracking together and he does not have to lie to me just to track. Some girlfriends ban their boyfriends from going tracking because they find it very dangerous. It is actually a safe and controlled environment but they just don't know! I have also seen girlfriends quarrel with their boyfriends for spending on car modifications.

Oneshift: Would you prefer to date someone who shares this interest with you?
Rose:

Sure, they are always welcome - to join me for a joyride round the track first...

Oneshift: Would you encourage other females to try?
Rose:
