Wild cats unleashed!
Our resident writer Benjamin goes in search of adventure in the wilds of Malaysia to tame some big cats
After the circuit driving was done, we were taken to the space behind the paddocks where a makeshift slalom course was set up to test the agility of the XF. After two practice laps, we had a timed lap where all the journalist times would be compared.
The XF fared better in the slalom course than its conservative capacity would suggest. Acceleration off the line was robust although it lacks the punch delivered by the V6 Supercharged unit.
Even though it weighs 1660kg, it changes direction much unlike its weight suggests. While most of the journalists managed an average of 32 seconds, the winning time was clinched by Yang, the official photographer for the event with a time of 28 seconds.
The highlight of the day was our hot lap in Jaguar’s top of the line XKR-S. Just reading the tech specs got us hot under the collar. Sporting a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 under the bonnet, the 550bhp cat seemingly explodes off the line as it darts out of the pit with each new victim. Piloted by top instructors from the UK, it was a thrilling experience as the instructor maximised every inch of tarmac for maximum attack at each apex.
Driving without any electronic aids, the instructors demonstrated both their skill and the beautifully balanced chassis of the XKR-S. Rhythmically flowing from apex to apex without drama. All the time filling the Sepang Circuit with that incredibly awesome baritone roar from its quad exhausts.
