A Worthy Successor To Its Predecessors - The All New Land Rover Defender
Singapore August 7 2020 - Land Rover launches the all new Defender, an icon reimagined for the 21st century. The new Defender channels its predecessors with the unmistakable silhouette we are all familiar with. New from the ground up and very personalisable, so that owners can make the most of their world the all new Defender joins the Land Rover family, and completes it. Beautiful, yet functionally purpose-built, the all new Defender is built on their durable new D7x architecture, engineered to take on the rough and tumble of the natural world, way beyond what a regular SUV can withstand. Built with proper offroading capabilities, the Defender features minimal front and rear overhangs for excellent (38 degree) approach and departure angles; and has the ability to ford through rivers to depths of up to 900mm. Some carryovers from its predecessor include Alpine light windows on the roof and side-hinged rear tailgate, complete with an externally-mounted spare wheel.

With the new Defender, Land Rover designers have brought back three front row seats, reminiscent of the original Series vehicles, so yes, it can be specced as a six-seater too. And while it does look more civilised than the previous car, the new Defender also sports a durable, easy to clean rubberised flooring, capable of handle anything from you spilling your morning cup-of-Joe, or if your name is Joe, and you are getting the insides muddy doing real offroad things.
And speaking of durability, the new Defender during development, was thrown into raging 50-degree desert heat and sub 40 degree cold of the Arctic, and to heights of up to 10,000ft in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, just to make sure that Joe over here gets a Defender that is above and beyond expectations.
The New Defender’s capabilities are thanks to its permanent all-wheel drive, which features a twin-speed automatic gearbox, centre differential and available Active Locking Rear Differential, built to handle soft sand of the desert, the freezing tundra of the arctic and everywhere in-between.
The new Defender is equipped with new Configurable Terrain Response, allowing drivers, or Joe… to fine-tune individual vehicle settings to suit offroad conditions. Drivers with lesser offroading experience will also benefit from the system, which can automatically select the most appropriate terrain settings.
Features like the ClearSight Ground View, which is available even in “milder” cars like the Range Rover Evoque, helps with showing the area around the front of the car, hidden by the bonnet, directly ahead of the front wheels, on the central touchscreen, meaning that Joe can pick his rocks to steer over or away from… or you as a driver wouldn’t spill your cup-of-joe by accidentally nudging the kerb while in the city.
At launch, Singapore gets the six-cylinder P400 model, which features Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle technology, and retails at $314,999, a four cylinder P300 model will follow soon.
In keeping with tradition, the new Defender will be available in 90 and 110 body designs, with seating configurations of 5 or six in the 90, and five, six or even 5+2 in the 110. There is no news if the top-of-the-line 130 will make its way to our shores.
