Bus driver jailed after hit and run accident in Yishun

29 year old Phang Yiap Choy was jailed for 12 months and banned from driving for 10 years on Monday after causing the death of a pedestrian. The Malaysian was a bus driver with SMRT and was making a right turn into Yishun Avenue 2 by Yishun Central 1 when the fatal accident occurred.  Mr Phang had failed to give way to the pedestrian, 67 year old housewife Ng Sew Hong, who was knocked down by the SMRT bus while she was crossing on a "green man'' signal. After the hit-and-run incident, Mr Phang did not stop and render assistance when he could have done so. A district court heard that Phang failed to slow down or stop to check for pedestrians at the T-junction and just proceeded to turn right that morning.
