Coming Very Soon - Meet The Jaguar Type 01

Jaguar has offered the clearest indication yet of its future direction with the announcement of the Type 01, a fully electric four-door grand tourer that will spearhead the marque’s next-generation lineup.

The British luxury carmaker said the Type 01 represents a “new era” for Jaguar, combining a dramatic new design language with high-performance electric drivetrains and a renewed focus on exclusivity and driving character.

At the heart of the car’s identity is its name. According to Jaguar, the “0” in Type 01 refers to zero-emissions electric propulsion, while the “1” signifies the first model in a new generation of Jaguars. The “Type” designation itself draws heavily from the brand’s heritage, echoing legendary models such as the Jaguar C-Type, Jaguar E-Type and Jaguar F-TYPE.

Visually, the Type 01 is expected to introduce Jaguar’s new styling direction, featuring what the company describes as bold linear graphics and a distinctive “strikethrough” motif positioned where the bonnet meets the windscreen. Jaguar says the car’s proportions and presence are made possible by an all-new body architecture developed specifically for the brand’s next phase.

Performance appears set to be a major part of the package. Jaguar claims the Type 01 will use a tri-motor electric powertrain producing more than 1,000 PS and over 1,300 Nm of torque - figures that would place it among the most powerful luxury EVs on the market.

Rawdon Glover, managing director of Jaguar, described the Type 01 as both a technological and philosophical reset for the company.

“We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before,” said Glover. “Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance.”

Jaguar prototypes wearing camouflage liveries are set to appear on the streets of Monaco ahead of the upcoming Formula E Monaco ePrix weekend, offering the public an early glimpse of the car before its full reveal later this year.

The Type 01 is expected to become the foundation for Jaguar’s future lineup as the brand accelerates its transition into an all-electric luxury manufacturer.
