Cruze cruises into Singapore
All new Cruze heralds brand new design language for Chevrolet

Chevrolet today announced the arrival of the Chevrolet Cruze in Singapore, the highly anticipated compact sedan that is expected to redefine style and elegance in Singapore‟s mid-sized motor vehicle segment. With a whole new standard of refinement, design and technological enhancements, the Chevrolet Cruze heralds the introduction of a new global design language for the Chevrolet brand.

“We designed this car to give drivers best-in-class quality and an outstanding driving experience in the compact segment,” said Mr. Kittichai Jarusrojpoka, Managing Director of General Motors ODC. “Our goal was to set a new standard in excellence within the segment. This meant completely rethinking the needs of drivers, and ensuring that the quality of the car – from the interior to the sheet metal – was never sacrificed.”
And the result? A sleek compact that has a powerful silhouette. Combined with a relatively short rear deck, the Cruze entices drivers with four-door coupé-like looks - a first for this market segment.
Inside and out, Chevrolet's design team developed a new global design language for the Chevrolet brand, expressing traditional Chevy design cues in new ways while introducing fresh visual elements. The exterior fit and finish on the new Cruze exemplifies the attention to detail seen throughout the vehicle.
The Cruze also boasts one of the widest wheelbases in the segment, allowing for improved stance and a lower center of gravity that will increase the car‟s agility.
For Singapore, the Cruze is available with two 16-valve engines: a 107bhp 1.6-litre and 140bhp 1.8-litre. Both feature continuously adjustable camshafts (Double Continuous Variable Cam Phasing – DCVCP) to optimize the charge cycle for high output and torque characteristics, reduced emissions and reduced fuel consumption.
Buyers can look forward to two transmissions: a five-speed manual and a six-speed automatic - a first in the mid-sized compact segment. The six-speed transmission offers smoother upshifts and downshifts than four-speed automatic transmissions found in competitor models, and improved launch and acceleration with a wide overall ratio and smaller steps between the six forward gears.
Launch prices of the Cruze starts from $52,388 for the 1.6 manual, $54,988 for the 1.6 auto and $68,388 for the 1.8 auto. Buyers can preview the car at all Chevrolet showrooms from 19 August 2009.
