Defender Dakar Is A Road-Legal Evolution Of Its Dakar Winner
Big tyres, big power and even a Flight Mode - the Defender Dakar is bringing genuine rally tech to the road.
Defender is taking lessons from its Dakar-winning race programme and putting them into a limited-production road car.
Called the Defender Dakar, the new 4x4 is based closely on the D7X-R that dominated the 2026 Dakar Rally.
Under the bonnet sits a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 635 PS and 750 Nm, while the competition-derived chassis gets Bilstein dampers, coil suspension and huge 35-inch all-terrain tyres.
It also gets dedicated Dunes and Gravel modes, plus the unusual Flight Mode, designed to manage hard landings after jumps.
The exterior is unmistakably rally-inspired, with carbonfibre components, roof lights, extended arches, mud flaps and additional underbody protection.
Inside, Defender has gone for a 2+2 layout with bespoke sports seats, optional four-point harnesses and dedicated helmet storage.
The D7X-R proved its credentials at Dakar, taking 1st, 2nd and 4th in the Stock class, while achieving stage 1-2-3 finishes on 10 of 13 stages.
The Defender Dakar will be offered in colours including Dakar Sand with a Yanbu Turquoise roof, inspired by the race car's livery.
Defender is taking registrations of interest now, with reservations due to open in early 2027. Full specs will be revealed at the 2027 Dakar Rally.
