F1: Red Bull-VW deal in jeopardy on the back of emissions scandal

The guys at Infiniti Red Bull Racing have openly criticised the performance (or lack thereof) of their Renault power plants. Whilst 2014 wasn’t exactly ideal, the Renault motor was still the 2nd best, behind the Mercedes, 2015 is another story, with Mercedes making further strides in engine design, and Ferrari leapfrogging the struggling French manufacturer. Rumour has it that the Austrian team were in talks with the VW-Audi Group on a possible engine supply deal – afterall, the firm has ties with the German automaker. However, on the back of the Volkswagen diesel scandal, there is a chance that that will not happen anymore. VW had plans to take over the Red Bull Racing team, relegating the energy drinks manufacturer to a more traditional sponsorship role. With sliding share prices, and a change in leadership, the deal is looking less and less likely, even though both parties have not completely ruled it out as of yet.
