Ford kicks in to help African charity
Ford employees have clubbed together to help disadvantaged children in Africa play football by donating their old boots.
More than a hundred pairs of boots were collected by Ford African Ancestry Network (FAAN).
With 110 employee members in the UK, FAAN is the largest employee resource group at Ford. FAAN is actively involved with many charities and events, such as the annual Black History Month Celebration.
The boots were donated by employees based at UK Ford locations in Warley, Dunton and Daventry. Facilities manager Neil Samuels was pleased with the participation: "Everyone has been supportive and generous with their donations and I hope that our contribution has helped Boots for Africa."
Partnered with Sheffield Football Club, the charity aims to develop the skills of disadvantaged children in Africa by providing suitable footwear. They hope to collect over two million pairs of boots for communities in Ethiopia, Ghana, South Africa and Zambia before the FIFA World Cup in 2010.
