Honda reveals high-tech VTEC engine
Almost 20 years after revealing its first VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control System) engine, Honda has added VTC (Variable Timing Control) technology to this bench mark engine. This new engine, still three years away from being installed in a production model, allows the control of the lift of the engine’s intake valve in response to driving conditions, achieving increased torque and efficiency at all engine speeds. All this high-tech breathing control allows the 2.4-litre Advanced VTEC engine to be 13% more economical than the present i-VTEC engine of the same size, presently found in the Accord. Exhaust emissions are also 75 percent lower than those set for the 2005 US Environment Protection Agency. Honda seems determined to keep diesel engines at bay.
