Honda's new CR-V - cleaner than all other SUVs
This is the sticker that will appear on all new generation Honda CR-Vs sold in the UK to drive home the point that it is less damaging to the environment than all other SUVs. Apparently in the UK (and Europe), there has been a backlash against the growing popularity of SUVs and 4x4s because of their size, the amount fuel they consume, as well as the exhaust they put out. Several town councils are thinking of imposing heavier parking charges on SUVs because of their larger environmental 'footprint', and Honda are hitting back with the new CR-V. It claims the CR-V has a cleaner exhaust emission than most large estates, hatchbacks and MPVs, and even the Mini Cooper S. Also, its footprint on the road is smaller than the Ford Mondeo or BMW 5 Series. And with its 3-star EuroNCAP rating for pedestrian safety, it is among the top 10 percent of the most "pedestrian friendly" cars on the road. Perhaps to really make the CR-V acceptable as environment friendly, Honda should introduce a hybrid model. Afterall, don't the Civic and CR-V share the same underpinnings?
