IN: Mahindra purchases Pininfarina
Tech Mahindra, a division of the massive Mahindra Group, announced recently that they have purchased a controlling stake in the iconic company Pininfarina S.p.A. This is the Pininfarina that has churned out iconic classics such as the Ferrari F40 and the Alfa 8C in its long and illustrious 85 year history. The deal will see the firm overseeing the Group’s high-end styling and engineering services. Representatives from Mahindra hope that the very fact that Pininfarina is now part of their portfolio will cement the refreshed design capabilities of the entire Mahindra Group. They added that “Given the increasing design sensibilities of today’s consumers, product design will greatly influence customer choice, and therefore our success.” Pictures used for illustration purposes only.

FE: Trulli to leave series
Driving may have been no issue for Jarno Trulli, but team management may be, for, after just 1 season, the Italian team bearing the former Renault F1 driver’s name, will be leaving the sport. Unlike the other small and independently funded teams in the sport, Trulli decided to risk it all, and develop their own powertrain for season 2, but both technical and supply issues with its Motomatica JT-01 forced Trulli to miss the Beijing and Putrajaya ePrix.
Francesco Test, CEO of Trulli GP, said: “After failing scrutineering in the Beijing and Putrayaja ePrix and in light of our commercial agreement with Formula E Holdings, we are forced to announce the retirement of Trulli Formula E from the FIA Formula E Championship. As major supporters of this all electric series, we are please to leave space for a new OEM to enter the series and further help develop the series and electric racing technology.”
Only 18 cars will be flagged off for the Punta del Este ePrix on December 19.

FE: Jaguar to return to single seater racing
The last time Jaguar raced in single seaters was in the early 2000s. Their F1 team was eventually taken over by Red Bull, and have seen success since the energy drinks company took control. Now though, it seems that Jaguar-Land Rover has had the hunger for competing in motorsports back, for they have just announced that from season 3 onwards, the team will be racing in Formula E
However, customer team they shall not be; the Indian-owned companies intend to be a manufacturer team, producing their own powertrain with the folks over at Williams Advanced Engineering helping out once in a while.
They hope that motorsport will be a way to test their performance electric car technology, and also wish that the stresses of competing can help to further their development of electrification technologies. More details on Jaguar's return to racing including team presentation, drivers and partners will be released in the run up to season three.
