Local News: More EMAS Signboards
From 23 May, 26 new electronic signboards will provide updates to motorists on traffic conditions along these corridors so that they can adjust their routes accordingly.

From 23 May, 26 new electronic signboards along Woodlands Road, Jalan Anak Bukit, Bukit Timah Road, Dunearn Road and the West Coast Highway (between Keppel Road/Shenton Way and Pasir Panjang Road/South Buona Vista Road) will provide updates to motorists on traffic conditions along these corridors so that they can adjust their routes accordingly.
The new signboards, also known as EMAS Arterial Variable Message Signs (AVMS), are located at key approaches and connections to adjacent expressways along the two corridors.
The extension of the EMAS coverage to major arterial road corridors will bring about better incident management and, consequently, better traffic flow on the road network island-wide. It will display the location of incident or congestion on both the arterial road and the expressway it runs parallel to.
These signs are full matrix and can display textual messages and simple graphics as well as up to seven colours (green, red, blue, bluish green, purple, yellow and white). This allows motorists to make more informed decisions through colour representation such as green to indicate smooth traffic, and red for massive congestion.
The installation of these new EMAS AVMS will also be expanded to another five road corridors by 2012. A total of ten major arterial road corridors will be fitted with the EMAS AVMS by 2013. These selected arterial road corridors are highly utilised by motorists and serve as alternative routes to the expressways they run parallel to.
