Local News: Volkswagen Sales Increased 40% Year on Year
Volkswagen achieved a new record in 2010 with 3,401 passenger car registrations. This represents a 40.5 percent increase over 2009 and the fourth consecutive year of volume growth.
Several key new Volkswagen models were introduced in 2010, while new
variants of existing models also helped to boost sales despite the shrinking passenger car market in Singapore.
The most popular model was the Jetta, which racked up 936 registrations. It was closely followed by the Golf (661) and Scirocco (542). Other strong performers included the Polo, Touran, Tiguan and Touareg.
Commenting on the brand’s sales performance, Dr Zeno Kerschbaumer,
Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Singapore, said: “In 2010 we
launched 14 new models, and further expanded the availability of technological innovations like our TSI petrol engines and DSG dual-clutch gearboxes in our line-up.”
The response from car buyers in Singapore was extremely positive, making Volkswagen the fast growing car brand in Singapore in 2010, in absolute sales numbers.
“We are pleased that our efforts to bring technically advanced, fun to drive and environmentally-responsible vehicles to the market are appreciated by a greater number of motorists than ever,” said Dr Kerschbaumer.
Another significant milestone in 2010 was the opening of Volkswagen
Centre Singapore’s expanded sales and after-sales facilities. These
ensure that the highest possible level of service is provided to the growing base of Volkswagen owners here.
