BMW Asia will showcase the BMW ActiveE – the emission-free, compact electric-drive coupé – at the Clean Energy Expo Asia in Singapore for the first time from November 1-3 at Suntec Exhibition Hall 401 (Booth D32).
The display takes place during the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2011 - an annual week-long platform for energy professionals, policy-makers and commentators meant for discussions and the sharing of best practices and solutions within the global energy space, in which BMW has been named as the official car of the convention with a sponsorship of up to 40 units of the flagship BMW 7 Series limousines.
Adhering to growing environmental concerns and BMW’s Efficient Dynamics strategy, BMW Group works towards actualizing an emissions-free, electric-powered vehicle so as to meet the growing demands for sustainable individual mobility in congested megacities around the world.
“The BMW ActiveE presents groundbreaking vehicle concepts and technologies designed to achieve sustainable individual mobility in densely-populated megacities. It is also the BMW Group’s next systematic step towards the mass production of electric vehicles,” said Mr Neil Fiorentinos, Managing Director of BMW Group Asia.
The BMW Group has been conducting field tests on an internationally unparalleled scale for the use of purely electrically driven vehicles in everyday road traffic. In the beginning of 2011, similar field tests in the USA, Europe and China, were conducted via a test fleet of 1,000 BMW ActiveE vehicles. The tests will provide further valuable insights into the everyday use of the vehicle. Additionally, ongoing field tests in the USA and Europe involving more than 600 MINI E cars are already providing vital knowledge about the demands on future electrically powered production vehicles.
The findings will serve to deepen the knowledge already gained on the everyday use of electric vehicles and to learn more about customer requirements. The feedback from customers testing the BMW ActiveE and MINI E will be fed directly into series production of the Megacity Vehicle (MCV), which the BMW Group will be launching under the BMW i sub-brand in 2013.
