More to arise from Hyundai’s Genesis

The platform which the Genesis sits on, known as the BH platform, will see four different vehicles sharing the same base: the Genesis, a long-wheelbase Genesis Plus, a sedan for Kia and, quite importantly, a sporty rear-wheel driven V8 coupe. Unfortunately, pictures aren’t available yet but the artists at Winding Road have done a smashing job of creating an artists’ impression.

Considering the success for Hyundai’s 3.8-litre V6, chances are that either that, or a new “Tau” 4.6-litre V8 with “well over 300 horsepower”, will be powering the new Genesis models.

Reportedly, however, none of the BH-platform cars will be available with manual transmissions. Instead, they are rumoured to be getting some sort of manually-controlled automatic gearbox.

While the luxurious Genesis is expected to cost just below US$30,000, which might work out to about something under SGD$100,000 by the time it arrives, the coupe should be priced somewhere in that region as well.

Winding Road’s contacts at the famous spy photo house KGP Photography mentioned that they have been seeing Genesis prototype models being tested since the summer of 2005, with completely finished interior. Also revealed was that when the spy photographers saw the Hyundai engineers testing again in 2006, they were racing the Genesis prototype against a BMW 5-series in the desert.

Having undergone two years of testing, in its complete form, is a testimony to how serious Hyundai is with this new model and we’re expecting it to be really, really good.
