Strengthening its foothold in the Asian region, Formula Drift descends on its fourth venue Indonesia this month. Achilles Formula Drift Indonesia 2011 presented by Mahkota Promotion – the second round of the Formula Drift Asia 2011 series – will be held on 29 and 30 October 2011, on the grounds of Jakarta International Expo & Kemayoran, Jakarta. Bringing the sport closer to fans around the region will be ESPN’s inaugural ‘LIVE’ telecast of the Top 16 battles aired in more than 20 countries across their entire Asia network, as well as on Indonesia national television on Global TV, on 30 October, Sunday, from 2.00 to 4.00 pm local time.

With an attractive grand pool of USD 25,000 for the Formula Drift Indonesia leg, international drifting icons like Daigo Saito, Ken Gushi, Robbie Nishida and regional drifting stars like Saranon Pornpatanarak and Emmanuel Adwitya Amandio will not be missing any opportunity to vie for the title and will be in Indonesia, as part of the stellar drivers’ list. Daigo was the winner of the first round held in Singapore in June, with Saranon in second and Ken rounding up the podium in third.

Harvey Davis, vice president of ESPN STAR Sports Event Management Group comments, “We are delighted to see Formula Drift come to Indonesia for the first time. This will also be the first time in the history of Formula Drift that an event will be televised ‘live’ to millions of fans throughout Asia.

“In addition, we are pleased to continue raising the bar each year by attracting more of the world’s best drivers to compete in our championship and bringing the best of drifting to fans across Asia,” he adds.

“It is always exciting to venture to new venues across Asia and expand the Formula Drift Asia series. From Singapore, we have successfully launched in Malaysia and Thailand and Indonesia was next on the list. Drifting has taken off in great fashion in this region and we are proud to be setting benchmarks to grow and develop the sport, especially for Southeast Asia,” says Marcus Lim, co-founder of Formula Drift Asia.

Formula Drift Asia is recognised as the highest echelon of professional drifting in Asia. Following the first round of the series in Singapore in June, Formula Drift Indonesia is the second leg, before Malaysia in December and the season finale in Thailand in February 2012.
