When these photos first appeared, Toyota kept silent, but now they've confirmed that the images are of the new Prius.
The next-gen Prius will only hit the streets in 2010, but the car will make a debut at the 2009 North American Auto Show in Detroit this January.
The car's shape will be similar to that of the current model, but will actually be about an inch wider and over an inch shorter than the current car. The optional solar panel on the sunroof that helps power the air conditioning and other electronics will still be offered.
The 2010 Prius will be powered by a new 1.8 litre engine, which is expected to give the hybrid a bump up in power. Batteries however, will still be of the nickel metal hydride variety, although it is probably that Toyota will switch to lighter and more compact lithium ion ones in the near future.
