Automotive engineers who are currently working on hybrid vehicles are in a dilemma. Should a hybrid car's battery power be maximised towards the highest efficiency? Or should it be geared more towards outright performance? In general, a hybrid's performance falls somewhere in the middle of the two.

Toyota's upcoming third-generation Prius will definitely be not just more efficient, but sporty too. According to Toyota's managing director, Miguel Fonseca, the next Prius will emit less than 100 g/km of CO2 while at the same time offer a sportier performance. Rumour has it that a second, even lower carbon emitting model will also be available in Europe.
