For the London Motor Show next month, Toyota will be presenting the Aygo "Crazy” concept car, a one-off model design for pure-driving fun.

But getting behind the wheel of this car is no walk in the park - the usual driving aids most consumers are accustomed to, such as power steering and ABS, have been removed from this model to give drivers the ultimate rallying experience.

Power comes courtesy of a Toyota's rear-mounted four-cylinder 1.8-litre VVT-i unit (which was last used in the Toyota Celica and MR2), with the addition of a Toyota Motorsport turbo conversion kit. It packs a decent punch for a car of this size, pumping out 200bhp and 240Nm of torque. The same five-speed manual transmission remains from the road-going version although there is a motorsport-spec clutch from Helix-Autosport incorporated into this model. The suspension comes from the MR2 roadster and features MacPherson struts on the front and rear. Performance is further enhanced by adjustable Tein dampers.

The body has been hand crafted with a road-hugging widebody kit. Its carbon fibre rear wing comes straight from the race cars of the American Champ Car series, and the excellent appearance and performance is further enhanced with the 17-inch wheels. Cabin has been designed by specialist coach trimmers O’Rourke, and features purpose built sport bucket seats and a full roll cage.

Despite the motorsports theme of the concept, the overall kerb weight has been raised by 160kg - for a final figure of 1090kg.
