PML Launches the new BMW X5!
One of the most exciting and gorgeous looking vehicles in the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment has returned with new updates this year. It’s the BMW X5. Only thing is, it will no longer be an SUV – it’s now an SAV, or a Sports Activity Vehicle.

Although to most, it might just be brushed off as another marketing gimmickery to entice potential buyers into thinking that it is something new and special. But is it really that much more exciting?
Well, for starters, that is a good hint at kind of target market which BMW is aiming at – the “lifestyle” bunch, diversifying the image to include more of those than just being an up-market family vehicle.
Available with a choice of two petrol engines, the smaller X5 3.0si delivers 272 bhp from its inline-six engine, with a maximum 315 Nm of torque available at 2,750 rpm.
Of course, gear changes will made through its golf club-face resembling shifter, which though looks rather clumsy, works brilliantly with its snappy movements and clever buttons.

The 3.0si will do its 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.1 seconds, significantly faster even for its size and weight than most cars on our local roads. If time and space permits, you could see yourself hitting 210 km/h.

It utilizes a magnesium/aluminium crankcase and weights just 161 kg, a good 10 kg less than its predecessor. Consuming 11.7 litres/100 km, BMW claims that it is 14 per cent more economical than on the previous model, despite having 18 per cent more power output.
BMW’s 3.0 litre inline-six engine should impress most people. But if it doesn’t…

Then perhaps this V8 might.
The 4.8i produces a healthy 355 bhp and has a peak torque of 475 Nm between 3,400 and 3,800 rpm. This V8 will blast itself to a hundred in 6.5 seconds, before the only bunch of people in the world with their famous unlimited highway speeds start deciding it’s time for you to not go any faster – at only 240 km/h (electronically limited.
Meanwhile, it will consume 12.5 litres/100 kilometres, according to the EU test cycle, though not that it matters when you have a 4.8 litre BMW V8. Oh, and it also fulfills Euro4 emissions requirements.
The SAV has also gone through an enlargement, with an increment of 18.7 centimetres in length and 6.8 centimetres in width. It seats seven comfortably, having adequate space for two children in the rearmost row, and comes with front, hip and curtain head airbags as standard.

Folding down the third row seats will give you a copious 620 litres of boot capacity, while a further total of 1,750 litres is possible with the middle row hidden away together.
