Porsche Celebrates "50 Years of Porsche 911" with the 911-50 Edition

Porsche is celebrating a special anniversary of the Porsche 911 at the upcoming International Motor Show in Frankfurt this September with a 50 Years Edition.  It has been 50 years since the iconic coupé made its debut in Germany.  The 50 Years Special Edition Porsche 911 will be limited to 1,963 cars. Porsche presented the original model to the public in 1963 and since then(initially known as the type 901), the 911 has fascinated automotive fans around the world.  The unveiling will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the 911 at the IAA in Frankfurt which opens on 12 September, 2013. The 911 50 Years Edition combines a unique shape with a rear mounted, flat-six engine and rear wheel drive like the first coupé.  Its efficient performance, active sports suspension and exclusive body styling add modern-day appeal.

The 50th Anniversary Edition Porsche is based on the 911 Carrera S with a wider body (44mm wider across the rear wheel arches) which is usually reserved for the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 models. The outstanding exterior styling is combined with features that have contributed to the half-century success story of the supercar.

The supercar is powered by a 400hp 3.8 litre flat-six engine, that sprints from 0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 186 mph. There are bespoke chrome strips on the fins of the engine compartment grille, and are complemented with special trims on the front air inlets with a strip across the car between the rear lights. The 911 features five-spoke cast alloy wheels whose style has been inspired by the "Fuchs" wheels which are legendary rims that were a Porsche design. They were fitted to the 911 in 1966. The 20-inch wheels are finished in matt black paint with machine-polished centers.

There will be two unique colours available for this 50 Anniversary Edition Porsche, a dark Graphite grey and a lighter Geyser Grey metallic. However, black will also be available. Each of the cars will have a "911-50" badge finished it two-tone 3D style on the rear lid. Other exterior uniqueness of the special model are high-gloss window frames and SportDesign exterior mirrors.

The interior features further styling touches reminiscent of the original 911 such as green labelling on the instruments with white pointer needles and silver caps on the instrument pivot pins. Another special feature are the centre panels of the leather seats, which are designed with a fabric pattern that evokes the ‘Pepita’ tartan design from the 1960s.
