Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has revealed Project Nightingale, a Coachbuild Collection model limited to 100 units. The name references “Le Rossignol” and a house linked to the marque’s designers near Henry Royce’s Côte d’Azur residence. It’s an open two-seater that signals a new design direction.

The car combines large proportions with a fully electric drivetrain for a near-silent open-top experience. Its styling draws on the 1920s and 1930s, with Streamline Moderne influences emphasising clean surfaces and minimal ornamentation. While largely finalised, some elements still require new production techniques. Each example will be hand-built at Goodwood.

Design inspiration also comes from Rolls-Royce’s late-1920s ‘EX’ prototypes, including 16EX and 17EX, which introduced lightweight construction and higher performance. These inform key themes such as a strong upright front, a long rear profile and a continuous central body line.

At 5.76 metres, Project Nightingale matches the length of the Phantom but is configured as a two-seat convertible. The electric powertrain allows a cleaner front design, with a wide reinterpretation of the Pantheon grille, slim vertical headlamps and uninterrupted surfacing. Its profile features a long bonnet, steep windscreen and compact cabin set deep within the body.

The interior introduces a “Starlight Breeze” lighting system with over 10,000 light points inspired by birdsong patterns observed during testing. A sculptural cabin layout, minimal controls and bespoke materials define the space.

Electric architecture also enables improved aerodynamics, including an integrated rear diffuser. Further technical details will follow as development continues. Each car will be individually commissioned with exclusive finishes and deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028.
