Rolls-Royce’s Project Nightingale Takes Its First Steps Towards The Open Road

Rolls-Royce has started global testing of Project Nightingale, an all-electric Coachbuild Collection that will see just 100 client cars produced.

Unveiled in April 2026, the bespoke model combines electric propulsion with the marque’s coachbuilding expertise. It’s also designed for owners who want to take their cars beyond the garage and drive them around the world.

The development programme will run for 350 cumulative weeks, with prototypes heading from Southern Europe and the Mediterranean to the Arctic Circle and Arabian Peninsula. Testing will cover a wide range of temperatures and altitudes of up to 2,750 metres.

Before this latest phase, the cars underwent more than 1,430 hours of aerodynamic simulations and wind-tunnel testing. Engineers will now conduct high-speed runs of up to 155 mph, while working to keep wind noise and cabin disturbances to a minimum.

Roof-down refinement is another key focus. The electrically operated wind deflector is being assessed for its ability to control turbulence, while the roof will face 10 tests, including exposure to temperatures of up to 80°C.

Even the unusual Piano Boot, which swings sideways on a cantilever mechanism, is being put through its paces, with up to 15,000 opening and closing cycles planned.

The goal is to ensure Project Nightingale delivers the quiet, comfortable and composed experience expected of a Rolls-Royce, wherever its owners choose to drive it.
