Rolls Royce to Debut Awesome 2008 Drophead Coupe in Detroit Auto Show

Updated 1 Jan 07 Since the release of news of RR's new coupe, Autoblog has released hi-res pictures of the car. See it all in its fullest glory here. Updated 28 Dec 06 Rolls Royce has named their new convertible the "Phantom Drophead Coupe", instead of the oft-used "Corniche" moniker for their open-top models. Posted on 27 Dec 06 Rolls-Royce has stood for the wealth and success of the owners rather than the integrity of the motor car. Having been designed in the true Rolls-Royce philosophy, this epitome of classic English wedding cars, the new Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible is both luxurious and spacious and delivers the ultimate in open top wedding car experiences

Powering the Drophead Coupe is the same 6.7-liter V12 engine used in the Phantom sedan. It produces 453 horsepower at 5,350 rpm and 531 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. Despite tipping the scales at a portly 5,776 pounds, Rolls-Royce claims the new model goes from zero to 60 mph in a rapid 5.7 seconds. Top speed is limited to 149 mph. This makes it the most luxurious get-away car in production. The Drophead Coupe will share the Phantom's basic aluminum spaceframe architecture.

Seating 4 passengers comfortably, the Corniche Convertible retains many elements from the EX concepts, including the teak roof cover and the stainless steel hood. It still hosts the standard (boring) design inside and the significant LED lights on the front, and rear-hinged suicide doors as seen in the 101EX Concept.

It will officially debut at the Detroit auto show in January 07. Only the super rich and rap stars need apply. For everyone else, be contented with your ride and go ahead and indulge in a spectacle of (official) images after the jump...
