While it’s obvious that electrification is the next big thing in the automotive world, we cannot deny the existence of some roadblocks - main hurdles being charging infrastructure and vehicle range. In Singapore, you can now purchase a longer range version of the Polestar 2, and given that the ORA Good Cat’s impending arrival has been met with much excitement, it seems that affordability, efficiency, charge times and range still form the building blocks of EV ownership.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that charge providers in Singapore aim to capitalise on “gaps” in the market, before rivals “chope” lots with chargers within every possible parking facility. Schneider Electric has announced that it aims to deploy 20,000 new (Electric Vehicle) EV chargers in Singapore through its EV partners by 2030. It will also be working with EV charging point operators (CPOs) to offer free EV charging to users from 1st April to 30th September 2023.

From 1st April 2023, Schneider Electric will offer close to 120,000 kWh worth of free charging, or approximately 3,000 full charges to users who charge their EVs using Schneider Electric’s EV chargers maintained by participating CPOs and partners islandwide. Participating CPOs such as SP Group, Charge+, MNL Asia, Busways, and EVOne will offer free charging to users through their mobile applications from 1st April to 30th September 2023, or until the 120,000 kWh is utilised, whichever is earlier.

As of December 2022, Schneider Electric has installed some 2,000 chargers in Singapore alongside its EV partners and aims to deploy more EV chargers from its EcoStruxure for eMobility suite of products which were recently launched in Singapore.

The smart EV chargers can be installed quickly in commercial, industrial or residential buildings. They also feature an on-site load management system that distributes real-time available power in the building to charge EVs, while avoiding peak hours and integrating renewable energy.
