SG: Flash floods force parts of AYE to be closed

Singapore has been hit by bouts of heavy rain over the past couple of days, but the downpour that showered over our shores Wednesday morning has caused road closures and delays for the motorists along the ECP-bound AYE. The water level rose to a depth of half a metre, and took roughly 40 minutes to subside. The AYE was not the only major road affected. Areas such in Commonwealth, along Alexandra Road, South Bridge Road, and Maxwell Road have been affected too, with the heaviest amount of rainfall recorded at 102.88mm at Kent Ridge. According to the PUB, the heaviest rain fell over central and western parts of the island, at the time between 8:15am and 9:30am. Upgrades to the drainage system are currently ongoing and is expected to finish by second quarter of 2015. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
