SG: Less vehicles were stolen in 2014

The General Insurance Association compiled some rather interesting stastics about motor vehicle theft in 2014. Despite theft being at a 5 year low, one vehicle is still being stolen every day, with most of cases taking place in Johor, Malaysia. 341 vehicles were stolen in 2014, which is 22.7% fewer than 2013, and is the lowest figure since the GIA first started keeping track about the statistics. 68.3% of the thefts occurred in Malayisa. SUVs appear to be the car jackers’ main target, with the bulk of the cars stolen in Singapore just for a joyride. For owners whose cars have been stolen in Malaysia, be prepared for the worst, as more often than not, the cars are either re-exported or dismantled for spares.
