SG: LTA to improve security at MRT facilities
The LTA will install various security facilities at selected overhead pedestrian bridges to prevent trespassers from entering the MRT tracks and tunnels. The first security measures which will be installed consists of several anti-climb barriers, which will be erected at the top of the Redhill MRT tunnel portal. The barriers, which are 3 metres tall, will be equipped with razor blades, which should be enough of a deterent to any potential intruders. More train stations will eventually receive similar security measures. The LTA hopes that they could reduce the number of track intrusions, for, since 2003, more than 100 have been caught illegally entering restricted areas along the MRT network.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
