Singapore GP update: Alonso wins ahead of Vettel, now 2nd in championship
Fernando Alonso won a hard fought lights to flag finish Singapore Grand Prix this evening.
The Ferrari driver started from an all-important pole position in the race, with championship riva Sebastian Vettel trailing in second from the start. Vettel's team mate and current championship leader Mark Webber finished in third after a clash with McLaren's Lewis Hamilton in the race. The latter retired with suspension damage after the collision with Webber.
Alonso's team mate, Felipe Massa had a tough race in the other Ferrari. The Brazilian had started dead last due to engine problem' in yesterday's qualifying but fought his way to a points scoring position by the end of the race. Fourth was McLaren's Jenson Button while Mercedes' Nico Rosberg rounded off the top 5. Sixth was an admirable Rubens Barrichello in the Williams and Renault's feisty Robert Kubica took 7th.
