The racers rolled back the years when they revved through the 960m track in four-stroke karts powered with Esso Synergy Supreme+ – a leading fuel which has been refined through ExxonMobil’s partnership with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing.

Carrying his form from back to back career best fifth and sixth place finishes in Spa and Monza, Albon set the standard by clocking in a mere 55.35 seconds. Hot behind Albon’s wheels, was Christian Ho who crossed the line in 55.55, just ahead of Yuey Tan who clocked a time of 56.19 seconds. 53-year-old Ferrari Challenge Champion Ringo Chong was unable to race due to an unforeseen injury, but joined in the days’ festivities mingling with other members of the local racing community as they cheered on the racing trio.

Sharing his thoughts on his experience, Albon said: “Racing against some of Singapore’s best drivers brought back many memories of my early career and it’s a great way to start the race week. It’s been a solid start to my time with the team and I am excited to continue developing my understanding of the car. It’s a big team with a lot of people to get to know, and I’m enjoying that part of the challenge. It’s also important for me to develop my technical knowledge in all areas, so having the chance to spend some time with the team at Esso today has been valuable. The partnership is a hugely important one for us, and as a driver I’m grateful for the performance that Esso brings to the car.”

After the race, the drivers got together for a media Q&A session where Alex got to share his experience in Formula 1 with the drivers. During the session, the drivers talked about their race experiences and the importance of finding the perfect synergy between man and machine.

Ms. Joanne Eu, Asia Pacific Retail Fuels Marketing Manager, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, said: “Esso and Mobil 1 have a long and successful history in motorsport spanning over 50 years. Activities like the Esso Singapore Trackday Throwdown are a great way for us recognize the shared passion for racing in Singapore across various generations. This same passion is what powers our ongoing development of leading fuels and contribution to motorsport.”

She added “The Synergy Fuel used in the karts today were developed in the same facility as those used in the Formula 1 cars and the same as what you get at our stations. By working closely with partners like Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, we’re able to test and refine the fuels at the pinnacle of the sport to continually provide our customers with cutting edge products at our stations.”

Gleeing from the experience, Singapore karting prodigy Christian Ho said: “This has been a really memorable day for me. To meet and race against a Formula 1 driver like Alex is a huge inspiration. Like him, I hope to race in F1 too one day.”

The event is the second time Esso Singapore has brought the racing community an opportunity to interact with icons of the motorsport world. In 2018, Esso Singapore held the countries’ first ever drone and remote-controlled car race with Max Verstappen.
