The beast was unveiled last weekend on the sly at Tokyo's Motorsport Japan 2008 motor show. This is the first official photo of Takumi, a concept embodying the forthcoming Spec-C version of the WRX STi. Modifications to the STi's turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer are expected to be minimal, as the developers instead focused on weight reduction.

Thanks to the use of lightweight body panels for the roof, boot lid and doors, thinner compartment glass and a smaller fuel tank and battery, the Spec-C variant is expected to be about 70kg lighter. New spoilers at the front and rear together with new lightweight rims provide the finishing touch. Chassis-wise, there are uprated shocks and springs as well as a stiffened suspension configuration.

The Impreza WRX STi Spec-C is expected to make its production-form debut at January's Tokyo Auto Salon.
