Taxi drivers beware!
It seems, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has stepped up efforts to nail errant drivers that tout, overcharge and even refused to pick up passengers.

During its operations in Clarke Quay, Boat Quay and Orchard Towers from October 24th to the 27th, the LTA caught 41 taxi drivers committing offences.
Twenty-two of them were found touting; eight had overcharged; the rest had refused to pick up passengers. Taxi drivers who tout can be fined S$200, and be given five demerit points.
The same penalty is imposed if a driver overcharges his passengers by less than S$20. If the amount exceeds S$20, a S$500 fine will be given, along with 21 demerit points. Once an offender accumulates up to 21 demerit points, the person's vocational licence will be revoked.
For refusing to ferry passengers, the penalty is S$100 and three demerit points.
A taxi driver who chalks up more than 6 demerit points within 24 hours after his first offence will have his licence suspended between two and eight weeks.
It sure is a hard day's work.
