The New BMW M5: In Top Form and More Innovative

The BMW M5 is set to launch in July 2013 with fresh aspects in design, an optional Competition Package for a more impressive performance, and extended BMW Individual and BMW ConnectedDrive.  With emphasis placed on specific areas of design, the enjoyment of the driving experience in the BMW M5 high-performance sedan will be enhanced. In parallel with the launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, BMW M GmbH's most successful models, the new BMW 5 Series Touring and BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo are also undergoing a planned modification.  The brilliantly tuned design highlights the challenging presence of the new BMW M5, while the Competition Package, the new equipment packages and the extended range of BMW ConnectedDrive features highlight its innovative character. The BMW M5 features a 4.4 litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and a peak output of 42kW(560 hp).  Furthermore it has a seven speed dual clutch transmission, the Active M differential at the rear axle and model-specific suspension technology.  All this ensure that the BMW M5 it will deliver an outstanding dynamic driving performance.  While the Competition Package was specifically made to boost the handling properties of the BMW M5, the output of the V8 engine is raised by 11kw to 423kW(575hp).

The M 'kidney grille' now features the model designation and its slats cite the double spoke design of the M light alloys. There is now the option of Adaptive LED Headlights which emit a particularly bright white light generated by a pair of LED units situated horizontal in the middle of each light ring. A new design tail lights with remarkably thin LED light strips generate a high contrast and add to its brilliant night-time look.

The interior has a new design with an increase in volume of the storage compartment under the armrest in the centre console. Chrome trims are featured on the Control Display of the standard-fitted iDrive operating system with an option of a Touch Controller which is a touch sensitive surface.

BMW Individual will be offering a range of new exterior colours for the BMW M5 (Pure Metal Silver, Pyrite Brown metallic, Frozen Blue metallic and further BMW Individual matt paintwork finishes), as well as exclusive leather shades (Cashmere Beige and Nutmeg). All this will be available from July this year.

Extended range of features from BMW ConnectedDrive ensure that the new BMW M5 is in top form in its sector when it comes to intelligent connectivity. Innovative driver assistance systems and mobility services optimize safety and comfort while driving as well as the use of infotainment programmes. The new Driving Assistant system combines Lane Departure Warning with Collision Warning including braking function. With a camera mounted in the windscreen area, it registers vehicles and pedestrians and gives the driver visual and audio warning signals if a potential collision is detected. In critical situations, reasonable hazard braking is actuated. The glare-free High Beam Assistant is now also optionally available for the BMW M5, while the Lane Change Warning system can now be used from a speed of 20 km/h (12.4 mph).
