UK: Škoda Superb takes honour at Towcar Awards 2009
The Škoda Superb wins the 1575-1724kg category at the Towcar Awards 2009.

The Škoda Superb 2.0 170bhp 4x4 has won the 1575-1724kg category in the Towcar Awards 2009. The Elegance model beat strong competition to win the class award.
The judges, who included Steve Cropley, Editor-in-Chief of Autocar, and Pete Tullin, Road Test Editor at What Car? magazine as well as Barry Norris and Sue Taylor of The Camping and Caravanning Club, said of the Superb: "'The name Superb suggests either confidence or arrogance. In this case, Škoda has been justifiably confident...It's a worthy class winner: swift, stable and spacious."
The Towcar Awards judging panel tested each vehicle for its towing ability, solo driving, practicality and ownership costs. Towing tests included straight-line stability, sharp steering inputs, low-speed slalom and a 1-in-6 hill start.
Solo driving scores were based on What Car?'s road test verdicts. Practicality looked at luggage storage and appropriate nose weight. Ownership costs included purchase price, resale value and safety equipment.
The Superb Elegance is the top-of-the line in Škoda's flagship model range. Standard equipment includes 18" alloy wheels, seven airbags, bi-xenon lights with Adaptive Front-light System (AFS), Columbus touchscreen satellite navigation system, full leather upholstery, rain sensor windscreen wipers, tyre pressure monitor and dual-zone air conditioning as well as Superb's unique Twindoor boot system.
The spacious and elegant Superb range is available with a choice of three petrol and three diesel engines, manual or DSG gearshift and two- or four-wheel drive.
