The decision comes about after Volkswagen's restructuring of its global sales network since the economic crisis of 2008. As part of the restructuring efforts, Volkswagen will be dealing directly with Volkswagen dealers without the need of a distributor.

Currently Volkswagen has 250 dealerships making it the largest importer of foreign vehicles and has been the number 1 import brand for nine consecutive years.
