The Audi Drive Select system can also be found in the new S4. Choosing one of the four modes available, the driver can tailor the characteristics of the car, primarily in the aspects of steering, throttle, transmission and dampers, to suit the road condition or his or her driving style.

Nothing is perfect, however, and so is the S4. Its only flaw, and a glaring one at that, is its steering. Besides having a rather artificial feel to the helm, feedback is also lacking, thus making it hard for any driver to truly feel confident punting the car hard.

Nonetheless, the new S4 is a very accomplished performance executive saloon. Its price tag of $225,000 might seem a tad high but it does come with an appealing combination of handsomely good looks, punchy performance and a premium interior, not forgetting the plethora of standard equipment. For those enthusiasts who like to stay low-key, this Teutonic Q-ship couldn't be more ideal.
