What we like:
pros
Superb engine
pros
punchy performance
pros
best built interior in the junior executive class
pros
improved steering
pros
handsome looks
pros
sporty engine note
What we dislike:
cons
Somehow not as cool as the Avant estate model
cons
even more steering feel will be good

Changes to the S4’s interior are minimal. These include a new steering wheel with an even sportier flat-bottomed one as an option, column stalks from the A6, and chrome-trimmed switches for a classier look while the ergonomics for the new MMI Plus infotainment system have been significantly improved, including the new hot key for Audi Drive Select and improved menu interface from newer models like the A6. The S4 is the definite class leader when it comes to build quality and perceived quality inside. Everything looks and feels expensive and luxurious – we can’t remember any surface that is brittle or hard.

As previously, the range topping A4 variant is suitably equipped with a plethora of standard equipment that includes keyless operation, cruise control, bi-Xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, electrical adjustments for the front sports seats, dual zone climate control, 18-inch wheels and so on. With the facelift, Audi is also offering new optional extras from bigger models like the A6 and A8 in the A4 range. These include adaptive cruise control, Audi side assist and Audi active lane assist and so on.

The new S4 not only offers updated, more contemporary looks but the new, more confidence-inspiring helm makes for a wonderful tool. With the improved steering and handling, the S4 is now more of a bona fide performance saloon rather than just a fast four-door model. With the rejuvenated S4 this convincing, the new 3 Series definitely has a tough fight on its hand for undoubted supremecy in the compact executive class.
