Car of the Year 2010 - the special awards

This year, we've decided to include new accolades in our annual Car of the Year awards bash.

If race cars were allowed in this award, we might have given it to the racing version of the still born next generation Honda NSX, the HSV 010-GT. The noise this machine makes is truly exceptional - its V8 shrieks like a banshee that reminds you of a F1 motor. And because the HSV (Honda Sports Velocity) is still just a racecar, this award goes to the road legal Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. We would like to have included the SLS in the Super Sports car of the year category but it can't qualify as it has not been properly tested on oneshift.com. Having recently driven it to the Cameron Highlands though, I can tell you that the SLS' 6.2-litre V8 emit the most intoxicating and addictive exhaust notes I've heard from behind the wheel all year. The noise from the SLS' V8 is as close as you can get from a NASCAR motor in a road car. On full throttle, this bewinged monster sounds like a Luftwaffe Messerschmitt taking off to head for another bombing run over Britain during WW II.
