What we like:
pros
Still a spacious and practical hatchback
pros
good level of fit and finishing
pros
DSG remains the Golf's biggest selling point
pros
cheaper price tag makes it an attractive deal.
What we dislike:
cons
Gruff turbocharged engine when pushed
cons
equipment level could be better
cons
susceptible to both tyre and road noise still.

It's cheaper, lacks the equipment level and doesn't deliver the goods as well as the Golf Sport. But still, if I'm in that dilemma, I wouldn't mind settling for the Golf instead. After all, the $13,500 saving's very significant - heck, you can bring the family for a holiday with that much money or just keep it for future use.

True, it is a compromise. But one that makes so much economical sense, the difference in performance and equipment is easily forgivable...
