Pass it on...

Volkswagen decided to give local executives another option when shopping for their proverbial executive sedan - ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the updated Passat 1.8 Turbo, which now features a 7-speed DSG 'box... Did I just hear the crowd whispering among each other?

What we like:
pros
Faultless build quality
pros
user-friendly cabin design
pros
comfortable seats
pros
large boot and its sheer ability to intimidate other road users.
What we dislike:
cons
Factory-fitted alloys are obviously too underwhelming for the car
cons
steering could do with a little more weight
cons
doesn't handle as well as a 520i.

The Passat is a worthy proposition when, in particular, looking for a car that oozes quality but at the same time, is understated. If you're the sort who doesn't fancy showing off your wealth (to avoid any investigation of sorts from IRAS), then this is the car you should get. But calling it "pricey" doesn't do the car any justice either, as pricing wise, it sits comfortably between the Japanese executive sedans and the more expensive German E-Class, 5 Series and A6 trio.

Still think forking out $121,300 is excessive? You might want to look at the Skoda Superb then...
